Studijní program: Macromolecular Chemistry (P0531D130042)
Typ studia: Doktorské
Forma studia: Prezenční, Kombinované
Délka studia: 4
Zaměření: chemie, přírodovědné obory
Náplň programu/oboru:
The Graduate Study is organized by the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry in cooperation with the Prague Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. The Study Program has been prepared by experts from the Faculty of Science, Academy of Sciences and the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology. It covers all fields of Macromolecular Chemistry (including Biopolymer Chemistry and Physical Chemistry of Polymers) and some disciplines of Polymer Physics. The up-to-date topics that may be studied experimentally at the Department include, e.g., (a) synthesis of polymers and studies in polymerization kinetics (e.g., synthesis of semiconducting substituted polyacethylens), (b) association processes in polymer systems (e.g., micellization of block polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions), (c) mechanical degradation and biodegradation processes in polymer systems, and (d) properties of semiconducting polymer materials. Theoretical studies in (a) statistical thermodynamics of polymers and (b) Monte Carlo computer simulations of chain conformations in supramolecular structures are available for theoretically oriented students. A great variety of other topics is available for students working partially at the Faculty and partially in the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. In order to prepare the graduates for a successful professional career, the Graduate Program reflects the impact of polymer chemistry on chemical technology and various industrial production branches, and the offer of individual research topics reflects the up-to-date trends in the free positions advertized by research institutions and chemical companies in the Czech Republic and in the European Community countries. A Ph.D. graduate in Polymer Science has basic knowledge covering all fields of chemistry, plus advanced knowledge of chemistry, physical chemistry and the physics of polymer materials, as well as usually having good interdisciplinary knowledge oriented toward the fields of biology, physics, or nanoscience, according to his/her thesis. The graduate is able to present his/her results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in teaching undergraduate students, the formulation of grant proposals, and the administration of research budgets are also quite frequent. The graduate is highly qualified for creative work at any academic, research or technological laboratory dealing with the development, testing and application of polymer materials at any research level (basic, applied, technological).
